Spaceboost Updated Level Concepts (Week 7)

Below are the updated and refined level concepts for our Spaceboost flash game. Refer to the Week 6 post to see how we designed the levels based on the wireframes.

Level 1: Alien Jungle

This level features exotic alien trees, plants, and weird and crazy wildlife. Player start from top of tree and jumps down from huge tree branches to adjacent branches until they reach the bottom and enter the alien cave underneath giant tree.

Level 2: Alien Cave

2nd level features a dark and foreboding cave with stalagmite and stalactites. There are a few traces of technology (alien drill, moving platform, etc) perhaps built by advance aliens. Player start from top of cave and move their way down and exit cave into level 3.

Level 3: Spaceport

The exit of the alien cave leads the player into the basement level of a spaceport (Level 3). The spaceport has been breached and overuned by aliens via the cave and ventilation shafts. This level features many floors and jumping platforms to reach higher floors (see week 6 for references). Obstacles include crates to scale over, machine turret gun to avoid, and acidic substance to jump over at topmost floor. Player begins at basement floor and moves their way up to reach space shuttle at the top.

Spaceboost Game - Character Concepts

Below are character concepts for the game. There are various spacemen, spaceships, and aliens. The style we wanted to implement in our game is cartoony, humorous, and very colourful, with emphasis on wavy, non-linear designs.

The aliens are the enemies or obstacles of each level with their own unique abilities affecting gameplay and keeping players on their toes. Our group is deciding if we want to play as a spaceman or a spaceship or both so we are continuously brainstorming new concepts to add to this flash game.

We will finalize and develop more detailed character sprites along with animation in the coming weeks.
